Section 3:  Assurances

  1. Description of the process used to determine and verify that all students marked as SCD met the definition:

  • Professional Development on December 11, 2017 using MDE SCD Determination Guidance Document and the Mississippi Alternate Assessment Decision Making Checklist

  • Using SCD report from MSIS, we pulled all information on students marked as SCD

  • Faculty paired in teams and reviewed all evaluation and diagnostic data, all IEP’s, all re-evaluation or referral data, using the SCD Determination Guidance Document and MAAP-A Decision Making Checklist

  • Students who received a YES on all standards of the Determination Guidance Document and MAAP-A Decision Making Checklist were deemed to be appropriately classified

  • For those students who did not meet all standards and eligibility criteria, IEP meetings were convened for further review by the IEP committee

  • Non-SCD students were then changed in MSIS to reflect their Non-SCD status

  1. Justification as to why students in the following categories meet the criteria for SCD:

  • Language/Speech: 0

  • Specific Learning Disability: 0

  • Other Health Impairment – 0

  • Visually Impaired – 0

  • Hearing Impaired – 0

  • Emotionally Disturbed – 0

  1. District plan for lowering the number of students participating in alternate assessment in the future:

  • We will incorporate the two MDE documents, MDE SCD Determination Guidance Document and the Mississippi Alternate Assessment Decision Making Checklist as an integral part of all IEP meetings, eligibility determinations, and evaluations.

  • Continue to provide annual Professional Development sessions which focus on how to use and incorporate the MDE SCD Determination Guidance Document and the Mississippi Alternate Assessment Decision Making Checklist
